How Can I Compare Medicare Advantage Plans in Columbus?

Comparing Medicare Advantage plans is about more than finding a $0 premium. The right plan depends on your doctors, prescriptions, health needs, and the costs you’re likely to pay when you use your coverage.

When comparing Medicare Advantage plans in Columbus and Central Ohio, look at:

  • Your doctors and hospitals – Make sure your preferred providers are in-network. HMO and PPO networks can differ significantly.
  • Prescription coverage – Check that your medications are covered and compare your estimated yearly drug costs.
  • Copays and coinsurance – Look at what you’ll pay for primary care, specialists, urgent care, hospital stays, and other services.
  • Maximum out-of-pocket (MOOP) – This is an important number because it limits your costs for covered medical services during the year.
  • Dental, vision, and hearing benefits – Plans may include benefits that Original Medicare generally doesn't cover.
  • Extra benefits – Depending on the plan and your eligibility, these may include OTC allowances, healthy food benefits, transportation, fitness programs, or other services.
  • Plan type – Understand the differences between HMOs, PPOs, and Special Needs Plans (SNPs), including network and referral requirements.
  • Your individual situation – A plan that looks great on paper may not be a good fit if your doctors aren't in-network or your prescriptions are expensive.
